Daily management of the Doctoral School is undertaken by the PhD Study Director, Prof. Pascal Madeleine, PhD, DSc.

Strategy

The Doctoral School has a strong focus on promoting excellence in research and developing the career of the enrolled PhD students. The Doctoral School has a special focus on research promotion ranging from the research year available to master students, the Industrial PhD program as well as the ordinary PhD program.

All programs endorse the 2030 vision of the Faculty of Medicine.
Digital health is a core competence of the seven PhD programs with focus spanning from biomedicine, biomedical engineering, clinical specializations, physiotherapy, public health, and sport sciences to mention a few.

All PhD programs organize scientific activities for PhD students and supervisors and provide specific mandatory PhD courses.

Doctoral Programs

The program offers an interdisciplinary, research-based and vanguard education to provide PhD students with the knowledge and skills to conduct biomedical and engineering science addressing relevant health care problems. The solution to these problems often requires a synergy between medicine and engineering and combined knowledge from many complementary disciplines; therefore, the program includes elements of electrophysiology, psychophysics, bio-signal processing, biostatistics, rehabilitation technology, machine learning, physiological modeling, decision support, big data, image analysis and computational neuroscience.

The PhD students can expect to have hands-on experience in cutting-edge research through specific doctoral courses and research, have access to state-of-the-art laboratory facilities, and work with internationally recognized experts. Some examples of the focus areas of the program are included in list below

Examples of research areas:

  • Diagnostics and Neurorehabilitation
  • Medical decision support
  • Physiological modeling
  • Cardiopulmonary physiology
  • Digital Health
  • Neuroscience
  • Neural engineering
  • Neuroplasticity
  • Medical imaging
  • Cardio technology
  • Pain neurobiology
  • Rehabilitation robotics
  • Artificial intelligence
