Become a PhD Student

There are specific ways to the PhD study, and specific requirements. Find more information on this page.

Access to the PhD Study - 5+3 PHD PROGRAM

As a standard requirement a Danish master degree or equivalent is required for all PhD students at the Doctoral School of Engineering and Science (120 ECTS points). For applicants from universities that do not apply the Bologna Declaration, the educational level will be checked.

Enrollment without employment (stipend) requires external funding from governmental institutions, private funding or employment in an organization located in Denmark. Each department will charge tuition fee.

Access to the PhD Study - 4+4 PhD PROGRAM

The 4+4 program is a way to commence the PhD study whilst simultaneously completing the master program

In the 4+4 programme the candidate is initially simultaneously enrolled as a master student and as a PhD student during the first two years (part A). Following this, the master degree is completed and the PhD enrollment carries on for another two years (part B). Read more about the 4+4 PhD program.
